Venique So Chic! Polish review and swatches...

Don't forget to enter our giveaway celebration!

This past Friday I did a post on my first Venique Lacquer and today I am going to continue with yet another Venique polish!  If you missed the last post you can find it here.  I really cannot say enough about how awesome this polish line is.
BLING BLING
Jamin' in Jellies is a really nice pinkish orchid creme.  With the use of the Venique sticky base coat, this polish is also a one and done!!!  The super creamy formula makes for a really nice even and non-streaky application.  I had a little fun with this color and after wearing it one full day added a little bling.

So here it is... Venique Lacquer Jamin' in Jellies!

I have a few more Venique Lacquers to show you, so stay tuned for my upcoming posts! Remember, if you can manage to get your hands on some... DO IT!  You won't be sorry.

Tell me what you think.  Do you like the idea of having a polish line specifically for natural nails?

Venique is quite unique! Polish review and swatches...

DON'T FORGET TO ENTER OUR GIVEAWAY!!!!

Hey there!! Been a while, I know. I apologize for the lack of new posts lately,  E and I have been dealing with regular life and all of it's ups and downs.  One of those crazy life things is that I started a new job! Still working on managing my time to allow for everything though and time management is not one of my strong suits!  I will do better, I promise!
Indoor no Flash
Moving on, I am happy to tell all of you about a new lacquer I recently found and am in love with!  Venique Nail Lacquer is a newer polish line that was designed with natural nails in mind.  (Hey, that rhymed!  I'm a poet and didn't know it!) At this time Venique is a salon only line. Meaning it is only sold to professionals at this time.  Hopefully, one day soon it will be available to the everyday nail enthusiasts.  I was able to get my hands on a few from a friend that's a nail tech though, and I plan on asking her to grab me a few more very soon.

What makes this polish so unique?  The formula!  According to the CosmoProf website, each and every Venique polish contains Sil-Tek.  Sil-Tek is a silicone-based ingredient that allows for flexibility within the polish.  With this added flexibility, your nails are guarded against chipping and flaking!!! Natural nails expand and contract when they get wet and then dry and the Sil-Tek technology accommodates these natural variations.  If that is not amazing enough the Venique top coat contains all of these same properties with the added benefit of diamond dust for a crazy shine that lasts.  If it gets dull you can just buff it a bit and, voila, your nails are shining like new!  One last benefit of the Venique nail lacquer line... it's a one and done! Whaaa?! Yes, one. and. done. Because each of the colors are created to be a one coat full coverage polish you not only save time and money, but polish too!!

On to the color of the day!  I have five colors from this line and the first color I wanted to share is Full-On Brogue.  This color is amazing!  E is not really a fan of browns and nudes but I love them!  Full-On Brogue is a super pretty taupe brown.  Really easy application and certainly a one and done!  LOVE IT!!

Now, without further adieu, Full-On Brogue!

This polish is amazing! I can honestly say that I wore this color for a couple of days, did some pretty heavy cleaning along with day to day stuff... all without the polish chipping! Venique hit the mark with their polish line!  I love all the colors and will be getting as many as I can!

Spotted Lizard

Today I am going to really try and not ramble too much!  It is so hard for me!  Here goes nothing!

Sometimes I like to pull out polish and just play around.  I come up with some crazy stuff and on occasion I come up with something I really like.  The mani that I am sharing with you today is super crazy and fun.  I have coined it the Spotted Lizard Mani.  For this mani I used Finger Paints Guggen I'm Lime, Rimmel London Marine Blue and NYC Matte me Crazy.

Finger Paints Guggen I'm Lime, Rimmel London Marine Blue and NYC Matte me Crazy
With one coat of Finger Paints Base Coat and two coats of Guggen I'm Lime, I used my dotting tool to create the dots on all my but my middle finger.  On my middle finger I used the same base coat with one coat of Marine Blue.  After letting my middle finger dry completely, I used a few thin strips of tape and just placed them in a semi-star pattern. Painting a layer of Guggen and removing the tape, I was left with something really quite cool.  It ended up looking a bit like coral to me.  I followed up by adding some Guggen dots to my middle finger and completed the mani with a coat of NYC Matte me Crazy.  I really hope you like what I came up with!

Lizard Mani
Lizard Mani
I really had fun with this mani!  The matte finish it made really cool and in person it really looked like spotted lizard.  Let me know what you think.  Do you ever just play with polish or try and come up with something wild and crazy?

Purple Ombre tips with a side of matted NARS, please.

For my birthday I ordered a little bit of stuff from Sephora. Initially I was thinking of getting a couple Sephora by OPI colors but then I did some such random color search and came across the NARS Thakoon Collection. My eyeballs fell out onto my laptop. Seriously the amazingly beautiful and vibrant colors were show stoppers. Of course once I popped my eyeballs back in and rolled my tongue back up at the slightly steep $18/bottle cost my inner negative Nelly popped off with "they only look that pretty because they want you to fork over that $18! They won't be as nice in person..." She's such a bitch, I hate that damn negative Nelly... but she DID have a point...

NARS - Koliary (matte) with Ombre Purple Tips

However, let me just cut to the chase and say that I added and removed NARS - Koliary from my cart probably half a dozen times. I knew I only had so much money to spend and truly spending a decent amount on 1 bottle of polish was just kind of silly. But every time I saw the color it was like it sucked me in with it's mind control and bam! The bottle would be back in the cart!

NARS - Koliary 2 coats with base coat

Well, once my Sephora order came, my joy at finally receiving Nails Inc - Baker Street was quickly eclipsed when I saw the beautiful black NARS box. I thought "holy hell! I guess $18 buys my polish it's own little holder!" Then I opened the box... all the sounds around me faded away and I had tunnel vision. All I could see was this amazing vibrant shade of blue. I really and truly did make the bug-eyed-jaw-dropped face. The website described it as "cyan blue". My description? Happiness. Seriously if you love the blue family and all it's amazing hues this little gem will make you feel pure, unadulterated happiness.

NARS - Koliary made Matte with NYC Color - Matte Me Crazy

I wore this color for 3 different manicures in one week. No lie. I haven't done that in over 5 months. Below is one of those 3 manis. I love purple just as much as blue and thought I'd try to combine them. I still have mixed feelings about this particular mani though. I liked it but I didn't. I dunno. It's sorta like that feeling you get when falling in love with an outfit on the hanger... then you try it on and feel like some vital bit of you is hanging out in an unflattering way... but you cant FIND that bit. Yeah. THAT feeling :/

NARS - Koliary, NYC Color - Matte Me Crazy, Essie - Play Date, piCture pOlish - Wisteria,
Julep - Anne, Ulta - Celebutante, piCture pOlish - Grape

First I painted 2 coats of NARS - Koliary. Then I used NYC Color - Matte Me Crazy to turn the finish matte. Using my reinforcement circles I created a crisp edge, and from there I just used each purple polish in descending darkening shade on each nail to create the ombre tips.

My Instagram shot! Follow me @enjeliq

Hopefully you fall in love with this color like I did... and if you don't... well I guess that'll be just that many more back-ups I'll have access to! ;)

xo,

What about you? Have you ever had this love/hate feeling for a mani?

Drool Worthy Ozotic Layer

I have fallen in love!!!  Yes that's right... I have been having an affair with polish and I do believe that I have met my match!  I can honestly say that I pride myself on the fact that I don't lust after much!  But, boy oh boy, when I first went on the web and saw some swatches of the Ozotic 500 series polishes I think I actually drooled!  Yes... I totally drooled and now that I have a couple in my collection, I know exactly why!!!

As I am sure that you know, the Ozotic 500 series polishes are being discontinued!  Grrrrrrrr... If I could buy multiples of each color, I totally would!  I am confident that I have at least purchased my personal must haves!  There is still some stock out there, so if these have yet to find their way into your collection, get online and grab a few while you can.  I purchased mine at OverallBeauty.com and the owner operator, Kim, was awesome and I had my choices within a week of ordering them.

This past weekend most of my Sunday was spent swatching. Although I love polish and painting my nails, I must admit that swatching is not my favorite thing in the world to do!  I have a hard time with the removal!  LOL!  Let's keep it real, I buy polish that I like.  I buy polish that I really want to wear out.  I buy polish with the goal of sharing it not only with the readers but people on the street.  So, for some reason I just feel bad polishing, taking shots, removing and then moving onto the next one!  E always laughs at me!  The entire time I was swatching, I knew in the back of my mind that the last mani I did was going to be the one for the night.  I was going out and I am always mindful of what I have on my nails.  People see it and like it, then I network my little butt off!  Hahahahahahaha!
Here is what I chose...
Finger Paints Inkblot Blue & Ozotic 515

I picked up Finger Paints Inkblot Blue last week and was inspired when I saw it next to the Ozotic 515.  I started with the Finger Paints Base Coat and one coat of Inkblot Blue.  I only used one coat because I knew I was going to do the layering.  I am sure that with two coats of this polish you will have full opacity.  Inkblot Blue painted really well and dried pretty fast.  Love it!

Finger Paints Base Coat w/ 1coat of Inkblot Blue
Finger Paints Base Coat w/ 1coat of Inkblot Blue
With one coat of Ozotic 515, I had the most awesome mani ever!  Ozotic 515 polished like a dream and, unlike some of the other holos that I have, it gave great coverage with one coat.  It dried really nicely and did not need a top coat.  I still have this mani on and have no tip wear or chipping!  And yes, it made me drool again! I may have even danced around the house a bit!

This polish is nuts!!!  Under the club lights it glowed and just like I thought, people loved it!  Tell me what do you think?  Do you have any of the 500 series in your collection?  Which ones are your favorites?

Ricans Gone Wild, Boricua Pride!!!

You could say that I am a proud Puerto Rican and you would be correct!  I take great pride in my culture and each year around the same time Puerto Ricans around the country gather in New York to show just exactly how proud we are!

This year marks the 55th annual National Puerto Rican Day Parade!!!
Even though I cannot be there in person, I am so there in spirit and mani!  LOL!

I will preface these post with a warning...  there is a ton of Puerto Rican going on in here!  So much so that E called my mani the drag queen of manis!  I will admit that I may have gone a bit nuts but ya gotta sometimes, know what I mean? There were just so many ideas floating around in my head and I think I used them all.

For my Puerto Rican Pride mani I used a base coat, one coat of China Glaze Ruby Pumps and my new Finger Paints Liners for the art.  Hip Hip Hue-Ray is the white liner and Royal Renoir is the electric blue liner.  I will say that I found them a bit thick but the colors are amazing and they weren't too terribly hard to work with.  I even managed to do my right hand with the exact same design and that is no small feat my friends! After completing the flags on all but one finger, I added my fimo stick Puerto Rican flags and blinged them out with some rhinestones.  Voila!  A Puerto Rican Pride mani that would make any 'Rican happy!

I hope you like them!

Woooooooohooooooo!
Bet you can't guess that I am 100% Puerto Rican from 100 miles away!
Nothing like a drag mani to get the party started!  :)
I hope that the parade is a blast and if there are any NYC Rican's reading this blog... go and dance in the streets for me!  I will be rocking my mani, making some rice and beans and jammin' to some salsa all day long! Besos!

P.S.  I tried to get E to bust out her best 'Rican inspired mani for today (she is Puerto Rican too) but she decided to leave it to me since her fungal visiter hasn't left yet :(

L.A. Girl Magnetic Polish!! Review & Swatches

I really like the magnetic craze that is going on right now.  I have magnetics from a few different makers and recently came across a super affordable magnetic that I couldn't wait to try.  L.A. Girl Magnetics caught my eye on a trip to my local Drug Mart.  They are beautiful colors and less than $5 each, which was a nice added selling point for me.

The magnetic trend was a bit over my head when I first came across it a while ago.  It seemed kind of limiting to me.  Here is the color, hover the magnet over it and done!  Just kind of blah.  However, I am now eating my words.  People are doing a ton with these magnetic polishes.  I will also say that the formula for magnetics in general, aside from the treatment, is nuts!  Super opaque in one coat and dry time is really nice.

So, L.A. Girl magnetics are really no different in terms of formula.  They are a really sweet velvety frost that I would wear alone!  When I saw them in the store I noticed that there were four different magnets and that is how I chose my colors.  Obviously, the magnets are interchangeable but I thought switching them around may have been frowned upon in the store!  LOL!  So here is what I chose!

L.A. Girl Magnetic
L to R: Electrostatic, Attract, Magnetic Field and Magnetized
L to R: 3 straight lines, 4 chevrons, bullseye, asterisk/star
Magnets are on the caps and pop off for use!
I did a really quick swatch of these, using a different color and magnet combo on each nail.  All in all they worked really well.  The only one that didn't seem to work at all was the magnet with the straight lines.  I tried to use it over Electrostatic (the steel blue color) and nothing happened!  Could have very well been user error but I didn't have a problem with the other magnets.  I used a base coat of Sally Hansen Base and one nice coat of each color.  The trick with magnetic polish is that you need to use the magnet while the polish is still wet so I painted and magnetized each nail completely before moving onto the next.  Here is what I came up with.

Pinky to index finger - Electrostatic, Attract, Magnetic Field and Magnetized
These colors are amazing!
I love the star magnet and the circles.  I will be experimenting with these colors further but for now, I just simply love them.  I wish I knew what happened with the Electrostatic. If you don't have any magnetic polish or are looking for beautiful colors that double as a magnetic polish, I would highly recommend these.  Beautiful color on top of an easy alternative to hand painted nail art is always a win in my book.

Tell me what you think!  Do you have any magnetics and if so what are your favs?

In the Navy... a piCture pOlish welcome home for my Sailor!

I wrote a post about how much deployments suck a monthish or so ago... Well my husband got to come home for 3 days before they left again! Yay for seeing him after a very long month!

I knew I wanted my nails to look lovely for his short visit but the anxiety of "what do I choose?!!!" quickly paralyzed me into that state of nothing is good enough. On top of that, my husband is one of those types that likes dark colors, especially blues. I really love dark colors too but honestly it's bright and sunny here! I wanted to use my awesome new Orly Neons or some other bright pretty color! So of course I came up with a fat lot of nada at first...

Then I decided to just go ahead and give him what I know he'd like the most... a navy blue. And blues? I have blues... tons of beautiful hues too! Light blue, dark blue, royal blue... you name it blue! Except I couldn't think of any great design ideas.

piCture pOlish - Abyss

Until I spotted my brand spankin' new bottle of Abyss by piCture pOlish! Seriously this blue is the best. It's a lovely dark and deep navy blue jelly. The formula is really great and clean up is lovely- almost no staining (if you're a lover of blues you know that occasional staining is a common and unfortunate hazard)! Yup! A lovely deep navy blue for my Sailor... how original right? Yeah... I was less than wowed at this point too. The only upside was getting to use my new polish, until...

I started applying and wow! This color is something special. I mean really really special! I felt like I was looking into the ocean at night while I put Abyss on. It was almost hypnotic! Again, the formula is awesome and could've been done in one coat but I wanted to make sure it was extra deep so I used two. Now, this baby dries with a HIGH SHINE seriously... high shine. I almost didn't put on my normal top coat, Seche Vite. Almost... but then I thought about any possible chipping or weird wear so I put it on just to be safe. Of course SV has crazy shine too so these babies were glossy! I loved it. LOVED IT I tell you!!

piCture pOlish - Abyss (2 coats, no undies)
So sorry for slight blurriness, I didn't realize it was blurry until it was too late! :(

Enough that I almost didn't add any nail art. Almost...  I looked to my right and there lay my beloved dotting tools... I looked to my left and there sat my huge box of glitters and stripers... Oh the pain of choosing just one! LOL ok ok... so I started the process all over. Pulled out some glitters, rejected them. Looked at other colors to do polka dots (LOVE THEM!) put them all back. Then I spied my lil stripers just sitting so quietly off to the side. I first thought lines? nah. Abstract design? nah. Then inspiration hit me on the head...

An ANCHOR!!

An Instagram picture of my mani (follow me! @enjeliq)

I chose white for a stronger, more defined contrast but in hindsight I should've gone over top of the white with my gold striper... the US Navy colors are Navy Blue and Gold. Oh well lol ya win some, ya lose some. I also made the choice to only put it on my accent ring finger as well as only my left hand. I thought it was cuter... because I'm married to a Sailor! I know, corny lol.

xo,

P.S. my husband LOVED my mani and said he felt really special that I did that just for him even though he was on such a short visit home. (well duh of course!) <3 he's so awesome!

Sadly, this shade was part of the "goodbye colors" from last monthish. So glad I was able to get a bottle, so sad I didn't get 2!
